"More than fishing — it’s heritage, heart, and pura vida."
Since he was 6 years old, in the fresh and salty waters of Costa Rica, Luis Gamboa discovered his first great passion: fishing. With a rod in hand and the sea as his teacher, he learned early on how to read the currents, understand the fish, and deeply respect nature.
At age 13, his life changed when he emigrated to the United States, bringing with him childhood memories and a deep love for the water. In Florida, he continued his journey with rods and reels, learning new techniques, facing new species, and mastering different fishing styles — always with the same excitement he felt as a boy on the Costa Rican coast.
Today, with over 35 years of experience and a lifetime spent among nets, tides, and adventures, Luis doesn’t just fish, he lives it.
Whether exploring the waters of Jacksonville or guiding unforgettable trips in his beloved Costa Rica, his mission is simple: to share that passion with others.
Because for him, fishing isn’t a hobby… it’s a way of life.
Teaching his kids what the sea once taught him.
A Childhood on the Water
Here’s Luis at just 8 years old, with his 9-year-old sister and their father, during one of their early boat fishing trips. It wasn’t their first time out, but it was one of the most special. Every trip brought a new lesson—how to row, how to cast, how to be patient... and most importantly, how to enjoy the sea together.
From those early days, fishing became more than a hobby—it became a family tradition that still lives on in every Costa Hook adventure.
A quiet return to the roots — just a family, the sea, and the joy of rediscovering home together.
In Quepos, where his father’s boat once waited, Luis took his kids to share the memories.
